Many organizations partnered together to create a back-to-school community event for students in Rockwall County.

Rotary members from Rockwall Noon, Rockwall Daybreak, and Royse City were present at Shoes for Kids, an annual event that provides shoes, a backpack of school supplies, sports physicals, socks, and many other resources to help children prepare for the upcoming school year.  The event was held on July 25 at the First United Methodist Church of Rockwall from 8 am to 4 pm.  Rotarians helped with shoe selection, checkout, passing out school supplies, “shepherding” clients through the building, and providing resource information throughout the campus.

The event delivered 1722 pairs of shoes for children representing more than 700 families.  First time participants of the event were blown away at the size and scope of the event and at the level of participation from the Rockwall Community.  Helping Hands of Rockwall was the major partner and they provided the backpacks with school supplies and many other school essentials.  They were very involved in the planning and provided all hands participation.  Eastfield Church of Christ and First Presbyterian of Rockwall jointly handed out over 5000 pairs of socks.  Many other organizations were also there providing information on services they could provide to the children and their families.

This event really helped these children and their families prepare for the new school year!!
