Noel and I had the privilege to work with this organization on Saturday, September 13, at their annual National bed build day.

We worked with SHP staff, Lowe’s staff, along with approximately 500 volunteers, tasked with building 200 beds for distribution across the DFW metroplex.  Many of us learned new skills and it was just a wonderful day.  We completed the 200 bed kits which consist of headboards, footboards, side rails, and mattress slat supports.  Lumber was cut, sanded, stained, logo-stamped, holes drilled for ready assembly on delivery, and mattress support slats made.  We left there with a greater sense of awe for this organization.  Everyone worked together, cheered each other on, and made sure every volunteer got to perform their chosen task.  Noel was working a drill press and I assembled the mattress slat supports.  We are both pursuing next steps to bring this to Rockwall County and hope many will share this journey with us.
